An Industry of Cool… or not.

Once again Cut Copy is gracing the fine state of Texas with their presence.  On 3/6/09 they will be playing Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater.  Good times for all will be had, for sure. Also, be sure to check out the after party, also at Stubb’s, but inside, which will be featuring Austin’s own L.A.X.

UPDATE (3/2/09) – I’ll be there, and I’ll have a full write up, I hope. sailorlegs will be there, too, and I am sure will post up.

I know, this has been out for a hot minute, but I am just getting around to posting about it.  I’m about 90% decided that I’ll be there for at least the first 2 days.  I’m as excited about the the venue as I am the line up.  Everyone I know that’s been there says it’s amazing.

Well, it’s finally all out in the open:  Wrong has officially dropped, the tour dates are everywhere, and iTunes has teamed up with DM to present the first in (what I assume is) a new series of offers. This is the second time, I believe that iTunes and DM have gotten together to offer something special. In 2005, they teamed up to offer a preorder special for Playing the Angel that allowed early adopters to buy tour tickets before they went on sale to the public.

The Pet Shop Boys are one of my favorite musical duos. Neil and Chris have an uncanny ability to write good pop music. I can’t think of anything they’ve ever put out that I haven’t been able to dig.

It seems that Yes, their forthcoming album due out 3/23/09 in the UK (no US date set), is shaping up to be another great addition to their catalog. The album is being produced by Xenomania (Sugarbabes, Cher, Kylie and Danni Minogue, etc, etc), and features guest spots from Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse) and Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy). It’s tough to beat that. Xenomania has pumped out so many pop hits that it only fits they would make their way around to work with the Boys.

The first single, Love, etc, was co-written by Xenomania, and if it is any indication of the rest of the album, then I am pumped. Love, Etc will be released as a single on 3/16 in the UK and US.

…and now for a Johnny Marr tune.  I am not a fan of Modest Mouse at all, so I’m digging back to ‘86 and tossing out Panic from Thank Your Lucky Stars.  Enjoy!

I’ve dug almost all the tunes I’ve heard from MMMatthias, and here he is with a new mix and a new take on an original!  I was actually just listening to his remix of Bloc Party’s “Signs” earlier and thinking about how I hadn’t heard a lot from him recently, so call it serendipity.

The mix is pure gold, as the title alludes, and the track is also rocking it for me.
